Silicon Grease for O-Rings

We strongly recommend lightly lubricating the clean (!) and undamaged (!) O-rings with Molykote silicone grease during the assembly of a connector CPT data transmission cable or during the assembly of a piezocone.

The reasons for this are:

  1. Reduces friction
During assembly (which involves rotational movements that can damage the O-ring through friction), the grease allows the O-ring to move smoothly without being damaged or twisted.

  2. Improved sealing
The grease fills small irregularities between the O-ring and the surface, making the seal more effective and significantly reducing the risk of leaks.

  3. Protects the rubber
Silicone grease does not attack rubber (unlike some mineral oils or greases). It prevents drying out, cracking, and aging of the O-ring.

  4. Water-resistant
Silicone grease is water-repellent, making it ideal for applications in humid or variable conditions.

  5. Easier assembly
A lightly lubricated O-ring slides into place more easily, reducing the risk of twisting or damage during installation.
